Executive Summary - In 2003, it is projected that New York State's museums, historic sites, festivals, and visual and performing arts c enters will welcome 28.4 million tourists. These tourists are part of a growing international movement in which heritage and arts activities are overtaking other recreational options in attracting and engaging visitors. This growth trend is particularly gratifying at a time when tourism - New York State's second largest industry - is recovering from severe challenges, including the terrorist attacks of September 11th.

Farmington Meetinghouse Restoration

An Historic New York State Center for Abolition and Suffrage
Executive Summary - The 1816 Farmington Quaker Meetinghouse is the focus of a major community preservation effort designed to stabilize and preserve the building, restore it to its historic appearance, and donate it to an appropriate historical agency for use as an educational and tourism center to interpret the nationally important history of Farmington as a site important to woman’s rights, Quakers and Native Americans, and abolitionism and the Underground Railroad, reflecting national debates about American ideals of equality.

Historically, the Capital-Saratoga region of New York State, was either a final stop or a temporary resting site on the road to Canada...freedom, for thousands of courageous escaping runaways. Runaways who were helped along the way by a clandestine network of brave black and white people working together to free runaway slaves through an Underground Railroad.

Buffalo Soldier Historical Landmark

A Ceremony was held on Sunday June 10th 2001 at the Sidney Airport to lay a marker for the "Buffalo Soldiers United States 10th Cavalry" who were encamped at the old "Sidney Fair grounds" June 30th, 1911 which is now the Sidney Airport.
