Present Buffalo Soldier Reenactment and Historical Landmark Ceremony

A Ceremony was held on Sunday June 10th 2001 at the Sidney Airport for the "Buffalo Soldiers United States 10th Cavalry" who were encamped at the old "Sidney Fair grounds" June 30th, 1911 which is now the Sidney Airport.

Ceremony Agenda was:

  • 7:00am - 1:00pm - Display, encampment and reenactment
  • 1:00pm - 2:30pm - ceremony and dedication of a "Head Stone" to commemorate this site as a "Historical Landmark."
  • Establishment as a "Historical Landmark" for the initiation of a relationship with New York State Division of Tourism, New York State Freedom Trail Program, and the National Park Service. A relationship that will identify Route 206 Scenic By-Way Association and Forging The Freedom Trail Project Foundation, Inc. for local "Tourism Initiatives." Tourism initiatives that will assist in the development of the local economy, agri-tourism and address the economic growth for the region.
